Why the Contemporary Classic Studio?

Although I have had an interest in calligraphy since the early 80’s, but I truly started developing a deeper understanding of the letter forms and shapes around 2019 when I formally started studying calligraphy under the tutelage of Haji Noor Deen. While learning myself, I also started meeting calligraphers in Pakistan. The more calligraphers I talked to the more I heard them voice the same struggles; calligraphy as an art form is slowly declining, there is only a small subsection of buyers who understand calligraphy, a lot of substandard work is being sold in the market (masked as high quality art) due to lack of knowledge in the market. Every time I talked to a struggling artist, I would ask what can I do to help. The answer was always the same “can you help me sell my work”.

I knew there was a lot of interest for calligraphic arts in the general public, but the collector doesn’t have the knowledge to evaluate the quality of art. So sometimes they end up with substandard work. On the other hand there are a lot of artists producing great art, but don’t know how to find buyers. It was obvious there was a need in the market to bridge the gap between these two parties.

After discussing the idea with Fouzia Zahra and a few other friends “Contemporary Classic Studios” was formed with the mission

“To promote Calligraphic arts, help the artists by providing them a marketplace, and make available high quality vetted art for collectors and buyers”

We are a team of trained professionals who are well qualified to determine the quality of calligraphic work. Between myself (a classically trained calligrapher) and Fouzia Anis (an architect, interior designer and an abstract artist) we possess the requisite knowledge to evaluate and identify good quality calligraphic art. Our collections are carefully curated to make sure only high quality work is acquired. At the same time we buy directly from artists to make sure the work is original and we pay the artists directly without any intermediaries.

We hope you enjoy our carefully curated collection as much as we do.
